Learn More About Form 944

WHAT is a 944?

Form 944 is a annual report of wages paid to employees and withholdings made by employers. It also includes information on the employer's share of Medicare and Social Security taxes during the period reported. 944 Forms must be mailed or e-filed to the IRS.

WHY do I file 944?

944 forms must be filed so the IRS can reconcile wages and withholdings and process tax payments. Penalties and interest can be incurred by the employer for not properly filing 944 forms.

WHO needs to file 944?

Certain small employers that pay wages to employees and withhold taxes must file a 944 form on an annual basis. The IRS will notify you if you are eligible to file Form 944. If you do not receive notification, you must file Form 941 quarterly.  See details and official IRS instructions below.

WHEN do I file 944?

944 Forms are filed annually, by January 31, to report wages and withholdings from the previous year.

HOW do I get a 944 PIN?

A PIN number is required to e-file 944 forms with the IRS. Apply for one at Filetaxes.com for free! Simply log-in or create an account, then go to the 'Enter New Forms' link on your Dashboard and select "941/944/940". You'll see a link to register for an employer PIN.
